Syd

What could be more vivid artistically than attempting to represent one of your most admired sources of inspiration on the day his soul departs this world?

Channeling the spirit of Mr. Barrett brought exhilaration equaled only by devastation in learning he passed the day I painted him. I might have tried to refine this except the thought of doing anything to it after hearing the news burned like sacrilege.

In signature melodramatic form, I wrote my message to him on the back of the work undertaken with deepest homage:

"This is almost finished but never will be because Syd Barrett died the last day I touched it and now I will not touch it again. Goodbye Syd. I know what you were."
